I came across this article today by Frank Viola, a US writer on rethinking church, written in 2009.  I instantly warmed to his emphasis on understanding the historical antecedents of contemporary movements – here specifically the question of the current re-emergence of interest in ‘discipleship’.  There’s a particularly strong challenge in his assertion that: ‘you cannot raise the bar on discipleship without raising the bar on the ekklesia—the living experience of the body of Christ—the native habitat in which true disciple-making and transformation take place’.  Definitely a blog to follow…
